Silicon Graphics has introduced the world’s largest high-performance computer that operates under a single copy of the Linux OS. SGI demonstrated a single system image (SSI) that runs on 1024 processors, powered by the critically acclaimed SGI Altix 4700 blade platform and a beta version of Novell’s SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10. This is double the processors on the previous world record, also by SGI, at 512 processors. The Altix 4700 system is currently residing in Munich, Germany.
