Hitachi’s new Travelstar 5K160 is a 2.5″ notebook drive that will offer an unprecedented 160GB of storage space. Although Seagate has unveiled its 160GB 2.5″ hard drive, theirs is available only with a parallel ATA connector, while Hitachi’s offering is a SATA drive, making it a sweet temptation to notebooks from Apple, Dell, and other manufacturers who have included SATA connectors in their notebooks. Although Seagate issued a statement that they will begin shipping a 2.5″ SATA hard drive last month, Hitachi is clearly first off the blocks and the Travelstar 5K160 will retail for $279.
