The next generation of iPods aren’t even out yet, and there are already rumors of the device using OLED displays in favor of the TFT screen that is being used at the moment. The smallest models will carry this new OLED display, although it cannot be confirmed whether it is the Shuttle or nano replacement. OLEDs look brilliant indoors, but fare rather poorly under bright sunlight, much like the first generation CSTN screens. A screen would be a very welcome addition to the current Shuffle. The other snag in using the OLED would be the short lifetime – perhaps it is an ingenious plan by Apple to sell more iPods?
