Apple has issued a recall of up to 1.8 million notebook batteries where previous generation iBooks and PowerBook G4 notebooks are concerned, citing them to be a potential fire hazard. These recalled batteries have the same manufacturer as the exploding Dell notebooks – Sony. Do check the battery’s serial number to verify whether you are in possession of the affected batteries. Owners of current 15″ MacBook Pro notebooks are exempt from this exercise as they have been declared clear and do not pose any fire hazard to consumers. So far nine reports of overheating batteries have been received, including a couple of reports of minor burns.
