Remember the good old days in the early 90s when CD-ROM drive manufacturers were all geared up to offer the fastest read speeds in mind-boggling increments? First off the blocks were 2x CD-ROMs, followed by 4x and then 8x. The madness didn’t stop there as it maxed out at 52x. Blu-ray burners seem to be taking the same path, with LG offering its Super Multi Blue (GBW-H10N) internal Blu-ray writer that boasts a speed of 4x, laying down data at 18Mbps. This is twice as fast as the Super Multi Blue’s closest competitors, but this speed advantage is obliterated in the face of current Blu-ray rewriteable discs that cap the write limit at 2x. Pricing and availability details are currently unknown. I still have an 8x CD-ROM drive and it works perfectly today with no qualms.
