The Hitachi EMIEW (acronym for Excellent Mobility and Interactive Existence as Workmate, in pure Engrish tradition) is one robot who sports half a mohawk and comes equipped with laser sensors used for navigational purposes. The EMIEW will be unveiled at the 2006 World Automotive Congress in Japan come October 23. Unlike its tone deaf predecessors, the EMIEW is capable of picking out its owner via voice recognition technology. It balances on both wheels using internal gyroscopes, although we wonder what would happen should someone bump into it accidentally – are the gyroscopes capable of compensating an external knock quick enough so it won’t topple over?
