It seems that everyone is jumping on the DECT bandwagon these days, making it a pre-requisite when it comes to developing cordless headsets and handsets. Thompson has entered the DECT fray with the GE 2830 that comes with a base station which hooks up to a PC and standard Skype software, enabling you to carry out your Skype conversations without being tied down to any one spot. Features of the GE 2830 includes a 100-name address book, a standby time of 120 hours, and 10 hours’ worth of talk time. Is it worth investing $149 in the GE 2830? It all depends on the amount of your Skype usage really. Just take note that a standalone wireless Skype phone has a notoriously short battery life, so make sure it is being charged when not in use.
