Toshiba has successfully managed to cram in a single/dual layer DVD and a simple/dual layer HD DVD on a single plate, enabling the DVD to be as thin as possible while holding all 3 layers. You can choose between a single layer DVD and a dual layer HD DVD, or a dual layer DVD and a single layer HD DVD configuration for a combined storage space of 34.7GB and 23.5GB respectively. There is no word on when this twin format DVD will make its way to consumers, but it would be interesting to see how movie studios and game companies will utilize such technology.
