You can throw the Wine for Dummies book out of the window now with this robot that can identify a wide variety of wines, cheeses, and hors d’oeuvres. This robot is a result of a collaboration between researchers at NEC System Technologies and Mie University. Wines are identified via an infrared spectrometer located on its left arm, verbalizing the name upon a successful analysis. The robot will even throw in its comments with regard to the wine’s taste as well as the kinds of food that complement the wine. This robot can be programmed to recognize different wines according to the owner’s preference as well as new varieties. This diminutive looking robot stands at just 2 feet tall with the sky-high price of a new car.
