Since most notebooks these days come with the new ExpressCard slot, you might as well put that available ExpressCard slot to good use by picking up the Merlin XU870. The Merlin XU870 is actually a HSDPA card, an UMTS card, an EDGE card, and a GPRS card all rolled into a single ExpressCard device. Although the maximum speed is currently set at 3.6Mbps, a simple software upgrade (along with a compatible network) will see you hit 7.2Mbps with ease for a speedy portable Internet connection. Just make sure that you’ve signed up for a high-speed data package with a cellphone provider beforehand. The Merlin XU870 has begun shipping worldwide at a yet undisclosed price.
