NEC to offer dual-format DVD chip

You could say that the HD DVD and Blu-ray format war is just heating up with players of both formats being released by different manufacturers. Unfortunately, consumers remain confused as they do not know which format will emerge as the winner, as nobody would like to purchase a dud of a device that suffers from the lack of industry support. NEC aims to ease your fears with hybrid player chips which can handle both types of discs. The µPD63410 and the µPC3360 chips ought to be out by April next year for approximately $84 a pop if all goes well. Will you hold out for a clear winner, or do you prefer to take your chances with a hybrid player?
