We suppose Sony wants to continue chipping away at Apple’s seemingly insurmountable lead in the digital audio player market by developing a Walkman that supports video playback as well, entering the iPod Video’s territory. The Senior Vice President at Sony claims that they are currently working on creating a product that does video, with scant details on just about everything else. Will Sony offer the freedom of compatibility with a whole bunch of video formats such as XviD and DivX should the Video Walkman be released, or will they remain hard-nosed and stick to their proprietary formats? Well you know what they say – two’s company and three’s a crowd. Hopefully Sony won’t get squeezed out of this market by Apple’s iPod and Microsoft’s Zune.
