Xerox and PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) have joined forces to develop an experimental printing technology that will usher in a new revolution, offering printouts that can last only a day before fading away into oblivion. This means the same paper can be used over and over again without the need to incur extra stationery costs. Xerox claims that at least 40% of printouts in offices were meant for single viewing only, hence this “erasable paper” will definitely come in handy for those moments. Information on paper can be scanned and left to “decompose” within a day. The possibilities are exciting for such a development – will we see the death of paper shredders as well as a greener earth? Hopefully a commercial version will be made available soon.
