It often takes an unexplainable love to turn around what seems like an impossible situation as fans of the online fantasy game Ryzom are trying to prove. Nevrax, the owner of Ryzom, are currently set to go into receivership this month unless enough funds are raised. Basically a race of time, the Free Ryzom Campaign has already received more than 60,000 Euros and counting. Should this ragtag group of gamers be successful in their endeavor, they will then purchase the game’s source code and distribute it for free, enabling rabid fans to further develop and contribute to the game’s development. It often amazes me to see how certain games have a form of almost unreal hold on its players, capable of making them part with their money non-chalantly while the same gamer turns down a Girl Guide and her cookies. It’s all about priorities I guess.
