The smartSTIK-MD was developed by bioMETRX and aims to tighten security around medical records, enabling healthcare professionals to transmit such private and confidential data to one another securely. This portable plug-and-play device comes with a wide range of pre-loaded medical applications, giving patients to carry their personal as well as medical records of their family members wherever they go. It can even receive information from a doctor’s computer concerning lab results, x-rays, notes, and prescription histories. You finger is the key to using the smartSTIK though, so better be wary of anyone wielding a knife within the vicinity lest they want to access your health statistics. A prototype is currently being tested, with a commercial version tipped to be released in 2007.
