Eleksen unveils Wearable Display Module

Eleksen, maker of fabrics that work with electronics, have developed a prototype laptop bag that comes with Vista’s SideShow technology. This Wearable Display Module can essentially be sown onto different items such as handbags or even a sack, offering 2.5″ of display goodness, a 1GB storage space, and a 7-button fabric keypad. Eleksen showcased their prototype at the recently concluded CES and is currently licensing it’s technology to other hardware manufacturers for product integration. It is said that SideShow-enabled handbags will be available this summer for approximately $250 each. Hopefully the LCD is durable enough to withstand the rigors of everyday life.

Will the Windows SideShow idea really take off? It is pretty unnerving to let everybody around you know that you have some new mail residing in your inbox, but I guess we’re now living in an exhibitionist age that glorifies the self. I suppose SideShow works well for those who cannot rest easy unless they check their e-mail every few minutes, while the rest of the general populace rely on their smartphones and BlackBerries instead.
