We all know how most cellphones have displays that do not venture beyond the 240 x 320 resolution horizon, so it is quite a surprise to see Hitachi offer a new 800 x 480 resolution that is bound to set the industry abuzz. This amount of pixels is crammed into a 2.9″ display that makes it much better for browsing the Web (think ubergizmo.mobi). In addition, the new screen has a viewing angle of 170 degrees in both horizontal and vertical directions – not bad, for a cell. Does anyone have any idea which cellphone manufacturer will be first to release one with a display like that? 800 x 480 in 2.9″ of viewing real estate is pretty sharp.
