LG Electronics will aim to set the home theater market ablaze by offering the world’s first dual-format high-definition disc player (Toshiba was looking into something similar). This hybrid player will be able to handle both HD DVD and Blu-ray content, and will be released sometime early this year. Hopefully this hybrid player will be able to offer an olive branch to both camps who are bent on eliminating each other. More details will be available at CES 2007 next week. Check out the official press release here.
This would make the HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray a sterile debate (it always was), just like RW+ vs. RW– for CDs.
