Seagate’s Savvio is hot off the factory conveyor belt, and its release has generated quite a lot of excitement as it could possibly be the fastest hard drive in the world. Just how fast, you ask? For starters, it spins at 15,000RPM, sharing the same yardstick as the other fastest desktop hard drives, but it has an advantage when it comes to information access – the small 2.5″ frame enables the Savvio to locate desired data within 2.9ms. It also uses a mere 5.8 watts of power when idle which is approximately 30% less than a desktop hard drive. You can find Seagate’s latest Savvio hard drive (36GB and 73GB models) inside HP’s ProLiant servers.
