Kwikset has lifted the curtain on a stylish biometric keyless entry system for homes, utilizing SmartScan to eliminate the need for a key or key code. All you need is to swipe a valid fingerprint across the sensor in order to activate the deadbolt. Depending on how many people you have living in the house, the SmartScan system is capable of storing and recognizing up to 50 user fingerprints, including a special timed “lock out feature” which opens up a trio of access options to homeowners. You can set continual access for family members, while house sitters and contractors are given temporary access. There is no word on how much a SmartScan system costs, but each purchase comes with a lifetime warranty.
