Alcatel-Lucent Evros

DEMO 2007- Alcatel Lucent Ventures (ALV) today unveiled Project Evros, a new interesting 3G-based mobile security and management technology for laptops. Invented by the Bell labs, the Evros technology uses the 3G network to allow enterprises to manage laptops even when they are turned off.

Using a secure, always-on computing system resident on a 3G broadband PCMCIA data card, featuring its own processor, battery, hardened OS, memory, GPS, VPN client, 2 factor authentication, IT will be able to enforce policies for compliance, install patches in real time, recover and protect stolen devices.

If a device is stolen, the IT can immediately disable the encryption key in the card, making the laptop data unreadable, in addition it can be located using the GPS capabilities embedded. If the card is removed, it automatically locks the laptop. Now, you can keep smiling even when thieves are running away with your laptop…almost! It will be available later in 2007, the photo shows a prototype.
