Java Platform 8 announced

Sony Ericsson recently announced its first cellphone that supports the Mobile Services Architecture (MSA) in the form of the Z750. The MSA umbrella standard (JSR-248) aims to reduce the fragmented Java community by taking a two-pronged approach – it will first define a clear set of component Java Specification Requests (JSRs) which must be supported on next-gen cellphones while giving less room for interpretation in the implementation of the JSRs by clarifying the conditions for interaction between them and for optional JSRs. Sony Ericsson hopes that with the introduction of the MSA, this move will reduce variations in the platform environment to create a more predictable situation for application developers, making porting issues a thing of the past when creating new applications and games for mass-market phones.
