NTT DoCoMo has made available its FOMA mobile service that fills the niche of watching over the elderly, sick, and handicapped. This simple device comes with automatic dialing, different display fonts, a 7″ touchscreen, and automatic answer in video mode that enables caregivers as well as the patients themselves to call the relevant authorities in case of an emergency. A remote control is also thrown into the package, enabling the user to make a video call to a pre-programmed phone number. I forsee many old folks’ home and nursing houses picking this device up to make the lives of caregivers and nurses easier. There’s no word on pricing or availability.
