What a world it would be if a computer could run on light instead of electronics, helping the earth stay green in the process as less power is consumed. This effort is led by physicists at the University of Bath, and it involves research in attosecond technology. If you’re feeling dazed by these terms, here’s the skinny on it: attosecond technology is the ability to send light in a continuous series of pulses that last one billion-billionth of a second, using this medium to convey information as Moore’s law comes to an end. It will be a long time in coming, but as long as somebody thinks of an alternative to the ridiculous GHz-race, everybody wins.
