Instead of taking the lone ranger route in Guitar Hero 2 on your Xbox 360, the upcoming game called Rock Band makes music a more communal and expensive affair. Communal, I can understand, but the prohibitively high cost of entry could hurt Rock Band’s sales in the end. Imagine the cost of setting up a virtual band – the game along costs $60, a guitar controller costs anywhere between $60 to $80 (double the amount if you throw in a bass), the drum set rolls on at $80, and the microphone sings to the tune of $40. That said, a full setup will cost $300 in damage if you’re new to the scene. Hopefully existing controllers will be able to offer the full range of functionality when Rock Band is released.
