Sony banks on FED technology

Sony has co-developed a technology that the company hopes will replace LCDs as the numero uno choice when it comes to flat panels. Dubbed Field Emission Display (FED), this technology marries the best aspects of both tube TV and LCD technology by firing electrons at each pixel in lieu of scanning lines. This method does away with the distortion found on CRT tubes while maintaining fast responses and an extremely impressive contrast ratio of 20,000 to 1. Sony ultimately hopes to use FED technology to release a 26″ full HD model by the time 2009 rolls around.
