Western Digital has started to ship its ’24×7′ AV hard drives which were built especially for long-term use, featuring technologies such as IntelliSeek that is smart enough to adjust its seek speed dynamically, resulting in a lower power consumption and reduced noise levels. In fact, Western Digital even dares to claim that this new AV hard drive is so quiet, it is barely within the threshold of human hearing. Its performance is pretty impressive, recording up to a dozen HD streams of 16 standard definition streams simultaneously. Users can choose from 80GB to 500GB models, depending on their needs. There is no word on pricing or availability.
