Apple aims to be more environmentally conscious by slowly phasing out LCD monitors that use mercury later this year by replacing them with LED backlit LCD monitors instead. While older LCD monitors contain only 1 gram of lead when compared to chunky CRTs that carry a hefty 3 pounds, they still come with some mercury that contributes to polluting the environment. Since LED backlit LCD monitors don’t use any mercury, this would be a positive move to make Apple a much greener company. Thankfully their iPods already feature such displays.
