Samsung develops thin OLED display

Samsung is once again in the headlines for all the right reasons. The company has just developed the world’s thinnest 2.2″ active matrix OLED display which measures a mere 0.53mm thin – the equivalent of a postcard. This is much lighter and more energy efficient than current LCD panels, offering a brighter picture in the process. Samsung claims that it will mass produce this new display within the next few months, so expect devices such as cellphones and portable gizmos to boast a spanking new display in the near future. The low yield percentage of 40% means these screens will be expensive, causing gadget makers to increase the price by an additional $200 for each display. Early adopters always pay a (high) price, and this is no different.
