Unfortunately, this update remains just that – in the design realm. Remember the ghetto blasters of yore that became entrenched in street culture? Designer Dirk Winkle has come up with an updated design which acts as an extension of existing audio sources such as your portable media players and cellphones. The weird looking shape is there for a very good reason – great sounding audio from a large bass speaker and a bass reflex tube. The second reason for its shape would be wearing comfort, making it a snap to wear it as a belt or sling it over your shoulder. If only the manufacturers heed such concept designs, we won’t be stuck with rectangular monstrosities.
