SigmaTel has recently dropped its fifth generation System On Chip (SoC) known as the STMP3700. Sigmatel lays claim that this is “the most integrated mixed-signal SoC available for the PMP market, offering a higher level of processing power to enable superior video quality and extended battery life at the lowest overall system cost.” The range of features is pretty extensive, boasting WiFi and Bluetooth support, FM tuner and recording, superior video and audio quality, and support for MPEG 4, H.264, WMV, MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC, and Ogg Vorbis file formats. Hopefully the new range of portable media players will come with the STMP3700 chip within.
