
One of the critical component in lowering the power consumption of a computer is the power supply, insists Lakshmi Mandyam. According to ColdWatt‘s marketing director, the company’s power supplies already exceeds the 2008 level set at 90% efficiency per power supply, by the Climate Savers Computing Initiative launched today. Of course, these power supplies comes with a 10 to 15% premium over the cost of current parts but according to Mandyam, “payback is within months“. Moreover, Coldwatt is currently demonstrating 2009 level power supplies (close to 95% for servers).
