Western Digital is certainly doing its part to prolong the life of hard drives as much as possible in the wake up solid state drives that are picking up momentum in the consumer market. The latest Caviar SE16 drive will come with a massive 750GB of storage capacity, moving up to 3GB of data per second thanks to the SATA interface and a 16MB cache. Other goodies found in the Caviar SE16 include Western Digital’s very own SecurePark technology that removes recording heads from the platters whenever the disk is spinning or inactive, with the objective of improving shock tolerance as well as long term wear. The IntelliSeek feature also aims to reduce overall power consumption by calculating the optimum seek speed, reducing the need for sudden acceleration, and in the process excess electricity. Interested parties can pick up the Caviar SE16 for $249 a pop.
