Chinook, a checkers playing computer has laid claim that is can never be defeated, while a draw is a remote possibility. This is a pretty bold claim to make, but compared to chess, checkers is way less complicated. Normal folks like you and I will probably lose to Chinook in the blink of an eye, considering how it has the advantage of going through 500 billion billion checkers positions to be where it is at today. No doubt playing against Chinook would never be a betting affair considering the outcome is more or less decided before the first checkers piece is moved. I’m still waiting for bots in computer games (especially FPS titles) to emulate the human mind so that I can minimize my contact with humans as much as possible.
