What you see here looks like a standard plastic lid, but it actually contains more technology than meets the eye. It is dark brown in color at first, but should there be hot coffee or tea inside the cup, the top portion will turn bright red as an alert. Whenever the beverage cools down, the lid will revert to its original dark brown color. The most interesting feature would be an indicator that shows whether the lid is properly secured to the cup – a dark brown ring appears around the lid if that is the case. Again, a red line indicates an unsecured lid. Smart Lid Systems is the brain behind this invention, and I would love to see this in cups used at fast food outlets.
