Sony Japan has just announced that its latest fuel cell battery eschews ethanol and methanol in favor of glucose as its source of power. The 4-cell array was demonstrated to power speakers hooked up to a Network Walkman after being duly filled with a squirt of grape extract and a tiny fan, utilizing sugar content found in a Gatorade-type sports drink. The Bio Battery, as it is dubbed, is capable of generating up to 50mW of power. I’m all for it, but I surely hope ants won’t start end up starting a colony in my gadgets.
