Intel to launch new Penryn chip

Mark November 12 on your calendars – that’s the day Intel will introduce its new Penryn chip, a microprocessor that will be produced using 45-nanometer technology, making the chip much smaller than what it is today, bringing even faster speeds than before while consuming enery more efficiently. Just in case this piece of news does not rock your socks off, how about word that Intel already has a prototype 32-nanometer processor in the pipeline (dubbed Nehalem), with these arriving in computers worldwide within a couple of years? Performance freaks will be pleased to know that the Nehalem will come in eight core models – guess power supplies will slowly nudge their way to break the four digit mark pretty soon. Below are some Penryn innovations you can look forward to:

• Microarchitecture Optimizations
• Enhanced Intel® Virtualization Technology
• Higher Frequencies
• Fast Division of Numbers
• Larger Caches
• Unique Super Shuffle Engine
