Just in case you’re wondering why Apple is hell bent on maintaining its exclusive deal with AT&T instead of selling unlocked handsets or making it available over multiple carriers, take your calculators out. A study on Apple’s financial statements show that AT&T is paying Apple $18 monthly on average for each iPhone sold – that amounts up to $432 over a two-year contract. That’s a whole lot of moolah if you ask me, so I guess seeing Apple-endorsed unlocked iPhones on the market are but a pipe dream – at least for a couple of years more.
