Olympus Corp. has developed a prototype of a new camera and projector that is capable of capturing omnidirectional video, shooting video images with horizontal and vertical viewing angles of 360 and 50°, respectively, in 1080i full-HD resolution, with the projector projecting the images shot. When installed on the ceiling, virtually any camera that is equipped with a similar optical system will be able to be used as a security camera that can monitor every single direction without missing a beat – sounds like a great idea to cut costs in the long run. The all-seeing camera is now a reality – now all we have to do is wait for it to be commercialized.
