Toshiba 2.5 inch HDDs for auto apps

Toshiba has just launched a new bunch of 2.5″ hard drives that are meant for automotive applications. The 80GB monstrosity (relatively speaking, of course, as 80GB is but the entry-level size for desktop computers these days) will be used in different applications like car navigation systems, and will be made available in industrial and retail versions. Features include enhanced durability and increased data capacity, the utilization of perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) to boost areal recording density and to raise storage capacity to 80GB (MK8050GAC and MK8050GACE), lighter moving parts, a highly rigid enclosure, and vibration resistance achieved by a highly accurate head positioning system. Other than car navigation, this new hard drive will work great with on-board entertainment systems. [Press Release]
