Western Digital aims to reduce power consumption with their new line of GreenPower hard drives which range from 500GB to 1TB storage capacity. Western Digital boldly claims that these drives are capable of reducing power usage by as much as 40%, making them the obvious choice for customers deploying Rackable Systems’ newest generation of Eco-Logical storage systems for a greater level of efficiency and performance. It has been touted that these GreenPower drives can save data centers more than $10 per drive each year in energy costs, so imaging what large data centers that run up to 10,000 drives can save annually. These new drives are priced between $149.99 and $349.99.
