BMW networked iDrive car

BMW is currently putting some of its cars through a test that involves an IP solution that uses standard Ethernet to connect car components to the central computer. This test could see costs lowered in the future thanks to the physical component cost as well as the IPv6 protocol’s future-proof design, but rest assured the amount won’t be too low until the marque loses it’s high society appeal. According to BMW, they’re pretty happy with results showing that the IP network is more than capable of coping with the safety features found in the car. Are the days of back seat LAN gaming upon us?
