[CES 2008] LumiPrint from Delkin is really neither here nor there, and is actually a different way of doing things. It stresses that it is not a digital photo frame, so you don’t have to worry about memory cards, LCD displays and even digital interfaces – sounds perfect for the older generation who want to literally brighten up their photos without going through the hassle of learning how to use a digital photo frame. Normal photos are illuminated thanks to modified light pipe technology that has been built right into the frame.
This light shines through a piece of acrylic, making the acrylic glow brightly which in turn provides illumination for your images. Each LumiPrint package comes with five sheets of LumiPrint photo paper that can be printed on your inkjet printer after adjusting the settings to matte photo paper. The LumiPrint comes with a dimmer switch so you can save power during the day when photos don’t need any illumination. Of course, you can use standard photo prints with the LumiPrint, although you will end up with the words “Kodak”, “Fujifilm” or anything else that is normally printed on the back of each photo.
Photos are best printed in 4″ x 6″ size. You can choose to power the LumiPrint using four AA batteries or AC power, and I would recommend the latter if you’re going to be at home all the time. There is no word on battery life at press time, although we do know the LumiPrint will ship this April for $40 a pop.
