Power Over eSATA Coming Soon

Looks like the Serial ATA International Organization is working on a specification that will do away with the need for SATA drives to hook up to a separate power connection, and this development ought to be made available to disk drive makers before the year is over. The new specification will be known as Power Over eSATA. I know that such a development would be most welcome, as it will definitely improve convenience when it comes to adding another device to your system, whether it is for casual storage expansion or an on-the-spot backup process. Power Over eSATA was jointly developed by Intel Corp., Hitachi Ltd. and other disk drive makers, and it is hoped that traditional external power adapters will be gradually phased out in due time with the advent of Power Over eSATA.
