The British Museum aims to increase the knowledge of everyone by putting its collection online, and there will be over seven million items to gawk at by the time they’re done. So far images of 275,000 objects have been uploaded, with the rest to follow over the next two years. It would be nice if they could come up with a 360-degree view, but that will take an additional chunk of time instead. Guess if you don’t want to jostle with crowds to check out the museum’s offerings, going online to do it is a viable alternative, although I believe the sense of awe and wonder will be lost since you won’t be able to experience the scale of things for larger and smaller displays.
