Sharp recently introduced a new blue laser that maintains the same 3.3mm diameter of its predecessor, although the GH04P25A4G semiconductor laser does feature a power boost to 250mW. This results in 6x recording speeds for dual-layer Blu-ray media that targets laptops while an equally speced 5.6-mm (GH04P25A2G) is available for desktop jocks. Mass production of both lasers will begin this April, although they are already being shipped now.
