
OEMs will start to receive triple-core Phenom processors from AMD as shipping has already begun. There is also the intention to launch the processors on an official basis in the first quarter of this year. According to AMD executives, triple-core Phenoms have their place in the processor hierarchy while helping push off quad-core Phenoms that had failed to run at their rated speed. There is no word on pricing as at press time, since there are instances of a quad-core chip being slower than a faster triple-core Phenom.
