Sony To Make Large Hard Drives

Who knew that Sony has what it takes when it comes to large capacity storage? The Japanese electronics giant has just announced a new technology that claims to make large hard drives a possibility with notebooks. It will ditch the traditional magnetic read/write head in favor of a hybrid of magnetic and optical technology which will see the density experience a marked increase, where media is written to disk using a laser. It has been speculated that 125GB of data can fit onto a single square inch. Using the same design as today’s 320GB disks, we could see a 1.6TB hard drive in the future instead. There has been no timetable set for such a hard disk release, so keep your fingers crossed that sooner will be the operative word.
