The Toshiba Gigashot GSC-DW1 DVD burner is but a reminder to all of us that had HD DVD been made the dominant format in its war against Blu-ray, this would be recording on HD DVDs instead of regular DVDs. Still, Toshiba is forging onwards, with this peripheral targeting the Gigashot A/K series HD cameras, allowing users to record all their favorite memories onto a single layer DVD-R via USB 2.0. Each $173 purchase comes with a remote control that makes it a snap to play back your recordings via composite, component or HDMI output to a TV display. It will be available in Japan later this month, although there is no word on when it will be released in other parts of the world.
