
Seagate just rolled out a new 1TB hard drive that features SAS interface, touting it to be able to boost performance by up to 135% when placed side-by-side with standard SATA drives. According to Sherman Black, Seagate senior vice president and general manager, Seagate Enterprise Compute Business, “SAS dual-port capability with redundancy, improved performance and data integrity make this drive the perfect low-cost/GB enterprise-ready drive for our customers.” Features include a 7200 rpm speed, 1.2 million hours mean time between failure (MTBF) and rotational vibration tolerance of 12.5 rads/s2. You will also get a 16MB cache size with an average latency of 4.16ms with a 8.5ms random seek and a 9.5ms random write speed with each purchase.
